From October 24 to 26, 2025, the influential industry event—“Forum on Industry Outlook and Technological Innovation for the Surface Engineering Sector in the 15th Five-Year Plan Era”—was grandly held at the Lingjiatan Wenhua Hotel in Tongzha Town, Hanshan County, Ma’anshan City, Anhui Province.
With the theme “Embrace Challenges, Seize Opportunities, Promote Innovation, and Achieve High-Quality Development in the Surface Engineering Industry,” the forum gathered top industry experts to jointly shape a new blueprint for the sector’s development during the upcoming 15th Five-Year Plan period.

Hosted by the Surface Engineering Management Division of the China Association of Machinery Industry Enterprises Management and the People’s Government of Hanshan County, the event showcased strong collaboration across government, industry, academia, and research institutions.
More than 300 participants attended, including leaders from the China Association of Machinery Industry Enterprises Management and its divisions, senior officials of Hanshan County, prominent academicians, seasoned PhD advisors, and leaders from well-known enterprises across the country.
At the opening ceremony, Hu Longzheng, Chairman of the Surface Engineering Management Division, emphasized in his speech that the surface engineering industry is at a critical turning point of transformation and upgrading.

During the 15th Five-Year Plan period, the industry will face major challenges—global supply chain restructuring, increasing pressures from green and low-carbon transitions, and bottlenecks in core technologies. He stressed the need to seize opportunities brought by the new wave of technological and industrial revolutions and drive the industry toward high-quality development through innovation.
Liu Zhiyuan, Secretary of the CPC Hanshan County Committee and County Mayor, extended a warm welcome on behalf of the organizers. He introduced Hanshan’s industrial layout and business environment, noting that hosting this high-level forum reflects the county’s strong commitment to embracing advanced manufacturing and driving regional high-quality development. He also expressed hopes for deeper cooperation with the surface engineering sector.
The forum invited Dr. Chen Wenling, economist, PhD advisor at the Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and current Chief Economist and Executive Deputy Director of the China Center for International Economic Exchanges, to deliver the keynote speech.
Her presentation, titled “The Strategic Foundation and Endurance for Developing New Quality Productive Forces in China,” provided a macroeconomic analysis of global and domestic trends and elaborated on the essence of new quality productive forces.

She emphasized that surface engineering—being a fundamental and critical industry—must align with national strategies, accumulate "strategic endurance" through continuous innovation, and provide core support for advanced manufacturing and green development. Her insights offered important theoretical and strategic guidance for the industry’s future.
During the three-day event, multiple thematic sessions were held. Academicians, doctoral advisors, research teams from leading universities, and technical leaders from major enterprises exchanged ideas on cutting-edge topics such as green coating materials, intelligent coating technologies, digital quality control, and low-carbon surface treatment processes.
The forum sparked dynamic discussions, sharing of research findings, and case studies that provided actionable technological pathways and solutions to help the industry “embrace challenges and seize opportunities.”
Mr. Zhang Fangjian, Executive Director of Shisheng Group, attended the forum as an invited industry representative. He noted that the event provided valuable insight into industry trends and national policy directions. He reaffirmed Shisheng Group’s commitment to fulfilling its role as an innovation-driven enterprise, increasing R&D investment, promoting industry–academia–research collaboration, and transforming the forum’s consensus into practical innovative products and green solutions to support industry upgrading.
The successful hosting of this forum not only unified the industry’s understanding and clarified the direction for the 15th Five-Year Plan but also built a high-level, open platform for communication and cooperation.

Participants agreed that under the guidance of new quality productive forces, the surface engineering industry will overcome challenges and seize new opportunities through collaborative innovation and open cooperation—contributing essential “surface engineering strength” to China’s journey from a manufacturing powerhouse to a true global manufacturing leader.
