We all know that Dacromet process technology is a widely used surface protection technology, featuring excellent properties such as non-toxicity, non-pollution, no hydrogen embrittlement, high heat resistance, and high corrosion resistance. Dacromet coatings are divided into water-based and oil-based types, and today we will focus on the technical characteristics of water-based chromium-free Dacromet coatings.

Water-based chromium-free Dacromet coatings (coating solutions) boast simple processes, low costs, strong corrosion resistance and weather resistance, as well as excellent environmental performance. They also address the drawback of poor wear resistance in traditional Dacromet coatings. Being green and eco-friendly, these coatings cause no environmental pollution or harm, while maintaining good corrosion resistance and weather resistance.

Advantages and Characteristics

  • No environmental pollution or harm
The raw materials of water-based chromium-free Dacromet coatings (coating solutions) do not contain any substances harmful to the environment or human body, fundamentally eliminating the source of pollution. Meanwhile, during application, the entire set of process equipment can adopt the existing closed Dacromet equipment, and no waste water or waste gas containing polluting substances (such as acid, alkali, or chromium) will be generated in the production process. Therefore, water-based chromium-free Dacromet coating solutions are a new type of environment-friendly coating.
  • Low energy consumption in production
The curing temperature of water-based chromium-free Dacromet coatings (coating solutions) during the curing process is approximately 50℃-100℃ lower than that of traditional chromium-containing Dacromet coatings. This saves a large amount of electrical energy and reduces production costs.
  • Good wear resistance of the coating
The hardness and adhesion of water-based chromium-free Dacromet coatings are significantly improved compared with traditional Dacromet coatings. The hardness of the coating can reach 7H, which endows it with better wear resistance.

Dacromet zinc-aluminum coating is a high-tech surface anti-corrosion technology in the world today, which replaces galvanizing, hot-dip galvanizing, and other processes. It is a truly eco-friendly alternative product in the surface coating industry. Adopting an advanced technical formula, the water-based chromium-free Dacromet coating solution is an inorganic water-based product composed of zinc and aluminum, and does not contain harmful heavy metals such as mercury, lead, or cadmium.

Composition of Water-based Chromium-free Dacromet Coating (Coating Solution)

The coating solution consists of three components: A, B, and C:

  • Component A: A silver-gray paste mainly composed of ultra-fine flake zinc, aluminum, and water-soluble organic additives.

  • Component B: An aqueous solution mainly containing anti-corrosion additives, special regulators, etc.

  • Component C: A viscosity-increasing component of the coating solution, whose main ingredient is cellulose-based powder (from white to light yellow).

Formulated by mixing Components A, B, and C, this water-based chromium-free Dacromet coating solution is suitable for the surface rust prevention treatment of ferrous metals, non-ferrous metals, and other materials.

Technical Overview

  • The film formed by the water-based chromium-free Dacromet coating (coating solution) is silver-white or silver-gray, with good surface finish, strong corrosion resistance, and excellent re-coatability. As mentioned, the coating solution is composed of three components (A, B, and C).

  • Preparation: First, stir Component A evenly, then slowly add Component B. After stirring the two components for a period of time, add Component C (the viscosity-increasing agent) to adjust the viscosity. Subsequently, stir at a low speed for 10 hours. Before use, the coating solution must be filtered through an 80-100 mesh stainless steel screen before application.

Coating Process

  • Degreasing: Workpieces with oil stains must first undergo surface degreasing.

  • Derusting and deburring: Workpieces with rust or burrs must be treated by shot blasting, sandblasting, or other methods to remove rust and burrs.

  • Coating: Clean workpieces (after degreasing and derusting) must be promptly coated on the surface by brushing, dipping, or spraying.

  • Pre-drying: Coated workpieces (with the zinc-aluminum coating applied after pre-treatment) must be pre-dried promptly at a curved temperature of 80-150℃ for 8-15 minutes.

  • Sintering: Pre-dried workpieces must be sintered at a high temperature of 300-360℃ for 30-50 minutes.
